My journey in learning the trade of a Goldsmith started at Heinz Laatzen’s workshop in my hometown of Hamburg (Germany) in 2006. I feel very fortunate and grateful for the following years, as Heinz taught me the skills as well as the love for our beautiful craft. The focus of our work was technical perfection and designs were often based around showcasing the uniqueness of special gemstones.
I qualified as a Goldsmith in 2010 through the Hamburg Chamber of Trades and Crafts (Handwerkskammer) with my journeyman’s piece, which won the Regional Competition and was placed second in the National Competition.
I moved to Taranaki (New Zealand) in 2010 to live with my partner and started working for Bill Roy at Dalgleish Jewellers in New Plymouth who introduced me to a completely different style of jewellery and taught me the art of gemstone setting.
After a year away from the trade I re-found my love for the making of unique and personal pieces of jewellery and started Goldendays in 2015. I am very lucky to have met Liz Sinclair from Pihama Lavender, who is showcasing my work as part of her beautiful gallery for Taranaki art
